Beyond hosting and playing Minecraft i also have many other special interests, one of them is the study of electronics,
fun fact when we say electricity we are talking about the flow of electrons between atoms!!!
Pictured on the right is my prototype linear power supply, it includes the basics like a emi filtering stage using a common mode choke and an X2 class capacitor to block high frequency noise. that then goes into the transformer and the voltage is stepped down, its then rectified through the use of a full bridge rectifier and through the use of a large smoothing capacitor a smooth dc output is achieved, lastly an adjustable linear voltage regulator is added with a potentiometer to control the adjustment signal ultimately resulting in a variable linear power supply, its only a prototype so is not safe to pull large amounts of current but its there as a framework to model future circuits with.
This is part of an electromagnetic interference(EMI) filter circuit i am building and learning about, it doesn't have y class caps on it yet so will not be as effective however i tested my previous power supply i created and found that the noise peak on the output was magnitudes smaller than that of the switch mode power supply that my speakers were using previously, so for now this is more than enough for my use case and gives me plenty of room for learning how the electrons interact with the components.
